Rebecca and Tony met as seniors at the University of Arkansas in 2018. That next fall, Rebecca moved to Chicago to begin law school, and Tony started medical school at UAMS in Little Rock. Over the next four years, they traveled back and forth each month to see each other because distance really does make the heart grow fonder. Tony matched at UAMS for residency in ophthalmology and Rebecca got a job at the oldest law firm west of the Mississippi, so the couple packed up Rebecca’s Chicago apartment and drove 653 miles back to Little Rock in a U-Haul through a treacherous storm. They settled into a quaint home in Little Rock with their dog Beatrice. Nearly a year later, while Rebecca was visiting her friends back in Chicago, Tony planned a surprise visit to see her and got down on one knee at Lincoln Park on April 22, 2023. Surrounded by friends and family, they celebrated all weekend long. While reading this, you may be thinking Chicago is the couple’s favorite city—though isn’t it always going to be the second city? However, throughout their relationship Tony and Rebecca have enjoyed vacationing on the sandy beaches of 30A.
